Questions

What kind of game is Building to the Sky?

A tower-building management sim. You're the architect, the manager, and the foreman: plan a skyscraper, build it floor by floor, and keep it running for the thousands of people who live, work, and play inside. Fill it with homes, offices, shops, hotels, and restaurants, program its elevators, keep its power, water, and air running, and earn five stars.

Should I build in 2D or in 3D?

Either. When you start a new tower, pick a classic side-on 2D tower or a 3D tower on a 100-meter-square city block that grows wider, deeper, and taller. The choice is permanent for that tower, but you can have as many towers as you like. Both run the same simulation: tenants, money, elevators, building systems, stars, and events.

Can I switch between rendered, blueprint, and CAD while I play?

Yes, any time. Press V or choose a style in the Control window, and the whole tower redraws itself while the simulation keeps running. The main menu has the same three buttons, and it remembers your choice.

When does it come out, and is there a demo?

Building to the Sky is coming soon to Steam. Wishlist it to hear the moment it's out. A free demo is coming too: the whole game, 2D and 3D, in every drawing style, with towers up to three stars. Every tower you save in the demo carries over to the full game.

What happens if I run out of money?

There's no bankruptcy. If your cash runs short, you simply can't build anything until more comes in. Upkeep and the utility bill keep coming out every night, though, so keep an eye on the Finance window.

Will it run on my PC?

You need Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) and a graphics card with Vulkan support and at least 3 GB of video memory, such as a GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB or a Radeon RX 570. See the system requirements. 2D towers run well on any settings. In a tall 3D tower, people and shadows cost the most: the Graphics settings can show fewer people in crowds, lower the shadows, and lower the 3D resolution.

Can I mod it?

Yes. Game Stats Modification changes any number the game runs on, from rent and construction costs to how much noise and elevator waits bother people, and one click restores the defaults. Mods can add rooms, pricing, blueprint and CAD color schemes, exteriors, lots, and scenarios, including 3D room models made in Blender or any other 3D tool. Subscribe to mods on the Steam Workshop, or put a mod's folder in %APPDATA%\Building to the Sky\mods, then turn it on in Options > Mods. You can publish your own to the Workshop from the same window.

Is there a tutorial?

Choose TUTORIAL on the title page for a relaxed tower with a step-by-step checklist. The whole Player's Guide is in the game too (press F1), and you can read it here or download it as a PDF.

Which languages does it support?

The interface is in English. The game has no voice-over.

Where are my saves?

Saves, settings, and key bindings are kept in %APPDATA%\Building to the Sky (paste that into the File Explorer address bar). Uninstalling the game keeps them. Pictures and clips you take in the game go to Pictures\Building to the Sky.
